    Cactus flower

I am a bit housebound, as it is just to hot to wander outside around with camera in hand looking for motives, so for the time being I like to show here my cactus flower image, which is flowering from time to time in my garden, but only for some hours at it best.......

    P&P very welcome please.......

Very soft and a nice sense of delicacy in the center albeit that dark area kinda takes away from a perfect balance, but that is the flower .Also only for me a little more saturation maybe? I also feel that the flower was cut too close in the frame if you know what I mean.

Raymond, thank you for looking and comment......

Yes, you are right regarding the flower to close in the frame, next time, if flowering again, I will keep your advise in mind.......
For the darker patch in the center, as you said, that is just the flower, nothing is perfect......

I also agree with you, that perhaps a bit more of saturation will be better, which I will try out now........

I find that flowers are deceptively difficult. The impact of what one sees is often difficult to express and is frequently attempted.

I think the strength of this pretty image is manner in which you have dealt with the nice light and shown the great color with delicacy. At 5.6,with your macro, you barely have sufficient DOF for this. The stamens are crisp - some of the petals fall on the softer side - but not enough to detract, for me.

Rather than crop wider, I wonder if you might get even more from this if cropped in somewhat tighter - filling the frame with color, as to me, the essence of this portrait is hue.

Hi Mark, first I want to say my thanks for taking out the time to look and comment........

I often find it difficult too to shot flowers, as I see them, and I find it even harder if it a red flower, but I am keep trying on to do my best.......

Yesterday I tried to crop wider, but did not liked the result very much, so now I will try your suggestion to crop tighter, let's see
    how this will work out.......

I particular like the colour though I am not a fan of wearing such on me...I am daft tonight -- I cannot fault it at all because I have shot some flowers a few days ago and I think it has the same softness and darkness (shadows) at the same spots. Maybe because of the angle of the sun...

Hi Izzie, thank you for commenting......but why do you think the color would not suit you to wear? So much I know you are of Chinese heritage, and as such will have dark hair, and I would think because of your dark hair the color pink will suit you, or is it just that you do not like pink at all ?

I know everybody has disliked and likes regarding colors, I have blond hair, so mostly can wear all colors, but dislike to wear green.......

Anyway Izzie enjoy your stay in Melbourne, plenty of photo motives to find there, hope you show some here.......

You are soooo funny...you asked me a question then answered it for yourself. I like pink -- on others. Reminds me of Barbie dolls or my grandchild who likes Princess this and that...Colours and numbers have meanings to my backgrounds. Green is a healing colour, the colour of a healer in the spiritual life, red is lucky, blue is an advanced spirit - the colour of a student guide while purple as it darkens is the highest colour of the energy spirit.

    Hi Izzie,

to be fair, I do not like pink on myself either.........

Thank you for your explanation about the meaning of colors in your background, very interesting, although I did know that red has the meaning to be a happy color ( I like red very much , I mean for me in clothing ) .........

I live in Adelaide, hoping very much to see some images you shot during your stay, in Melbourne........

    Greetings,

To the Chinese it is a lucky colour for them...as well as the number 8 combined so you will see many wearing them as T-shirt with number 8 during these New Year. I wear red on Fridays to salute the military's sacrifice in fighting the wars for us and keeping us safe not for any other reason.

Hi Izzie..another interesting reply from you....thank you....

We have here in Adelaide only a small section of China Town, it is adjacent to the large Adelaide Market, but each time I am at the market, one can find me also strolling through the small section of China Town ........

Last Saturday there were Chinese New Year celebration, and I had plans to go and see, but it was 41C heat that day, which was to hot for my liking, so I stayed home

But the whole Chinese Culture is of a very big interest to me.........

    Greetings to you,

    Re: Cactus flower

When I go to the city I always visit China Town here. One time I was with a tour of some feng shui people (I do not believe in Feng Shui, mind you...) we came upon a pair of guardian lions. They are supposed to be "children lions" but in its history despite that they are playful, they are supposed to be very fierce. One of them has a ball in its mouth. You are supposed to touch that and if it moves you will be lucky for the rest of your life and any problems will just easily fade away. Anyway to cut my story short, I was the first on line to touch the ball in its mouth and with a much gentle push and wriggle, the ball moves. Every Chinese in the street passing by, uttered a surprise. I just thought nothing of it until it was explained to me what that means. So the rest of the group in the tour decided they want their luck to change too. Lo and behold! No one was able to move the ball again. Apparently, as explained, it chose only one every so often and since we were in a group, I was the chosen one. I was grinning from ear to ear all the way home...wee..wee...wee...(like an oinkling...)

And oh, did I tell you that the house I am staying right now has a red door? Yup! That kind of red.

Very nice. I like the soft pink colour of the leaves. I also like the color contrast between the centre of the flower and its leaves.
