    Sparrowhawk

    He is concentrating on a small shrub with about 20 sparrows taking refuge in it. He went off with one in his talons.

    I was lucky to get this single shot through our kitchen window as these birds do not wait around.

    Thank you so much for comments Grahame, John and Izzie. The day after this photo was taken a female Sparrowhawk came into the garden and went off with another sparrow. So it seems there is a pair nesting nearby who regard our garden as the local food store. We are probably responsible for a sparrow population boom locally here as we maintain bird feeders. Quite a number of other species also.
