Very interesting. Usually, I associate penguins with water and snow and ice, not dirt. Do you have a frame that shows more of the penguin on the right? Besides the crop of the bird on the right it looks like a nice photo.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of these guys. Agree that the crop is a bit odd. Puffins also nest in burrows.

This particular shot was from the Falkland Islands near Port Stanley. It's really a shot to show the burrow as a behavioral note. Unfortunately movement to my left was difficult due to a blue rope and a mine warning sign.

The penguin on the right refused to cooperate by posing and my command of penguish wasn't sufficient to give it direction. It insisted on turning away to groom and looked rather like a fuzzy bowling ball. With a bit of luck I may find a better shot as I keep filtering images.

It is not that the bird was uncooperative, it's just that the patience of the photographer usually runs out while the bird is still prettying up for the shot If all other language fails, remember "pishing" is answered to by many species.
I thought of at least one more burrowing bird: the bank swallow.

I find that many birds speak crow. Particularly the double caw alert call. I was once with some folks trying to get two owls to look at them at the same time I told them to get ready and start shooting when I called them. When I cawed they both looked to see what direction the crow was indicating and they got their shots.
