Re: I Like Gulls
Beautiful capture! Lovely light, position and detail. The dangling webbed feet are special.
I'm also very fond of gulls, and pigeons (true beauties in flight and loaded with personality)

Re: I Like Gulls
Thank you Christina, Pigeons are great as well, if you get close have a look at the pupil of the eye it always seems to 'bleed' down at the bottom - its not round, I think it is so they have foward and downward vision at the same time, will see if I can find a photo to show what I mean

Re: I Like Gulls
Thanks for sharing. The bleed of the pupil is something I've never noticed, and now I'm going to have to check out my pigeons to see if they are the same.

Re: I Like Gulls
Spend a little more time around them and you'll be cured
The bird is in an interesting position, is nice and sharp and the techs are well handled. Compositionally it is confusing. Placement of the bird in the frame invites the viewer to look at other elements. Was that your intention?

Re: I Like Gulls
Thanks Grahame, definitely a 'look' there
John, thanks appreciated
Dan, yep - I wanted to retain the other birds as they were all either orientating towards - or looking like they were on the way over to the same place - coming into see what captured the attention of the main gull

Re: I Like Gulls
Interesting to say the least about the pigeon. the pupil seems to be detaching itself from the white of the eye...Nice shot of the sea gull...I have seen some yesterday but it was already dark. I like the way they glide but I have not seen the pose like this one you shot here...

Re: I Like Gulls
Whenever a gull looks at me like that I've usually just washed the car and he's lookin' to set up a 'bombing' run on it.
Nice capture!

Re: I Like Gulls
Hi Mark, Izzie,
I have previously noticed the apparent odd pupil shape on pigeons I have shot.
A search on google turned up a lot of racing pigeon content (all had circular pupils, some with odd colours around), but even a review of hundreds of google images (some feral pigeons) didn't show any as 'bad' as I have seen - which did appear to be mis-shapen pupils.
However Mark, your shot, when viewed at 100% in Lytebox, suggests the dark area may just be dark pigmentation around the iris, and that the hole is actually circular.
Due to my lack of image tagging, I'm not sure I'll be able to find my pigeon shots very easily to compare
Oh, and Mark, that gull was looking for his/her 'bribe' to pose - and the disgust is evident because he/she couldn't see it

Re: I Like Gulls
Cheers Dave, interesting, all the ones i got close to at Slimbridge had this effect in the eye.
I think you are right, never feed the gulls is my motto, but I will take advantage of everyone else feeding them
Cheers Matt
