Nice place for him, I wonder how many tried to get into his keg? Nice capture.

Joe...he is such a beautiful dog!!! but they drool a hell of a lot more than a rottweiler. On this shot, you can do a bit of saturation in his eyes to make this shot pop up some more. Or do what Geoff is learning at the moment -- how to put catch lights in the eyes. It is more work but it looks very nice...

I love it, Great composition. I didn't think they still carried alcohol.

    Thanks Izzie!
I tried to lighten his eyes but was not successful. I will have to try putting catch lights, if I can figure out how to do it.

I did try to google Geoff's method and my search engine filled up over two pages. Now I am trying to weed out the chaff for the real grain...

I agree, a small change can make a big difference.

If mine, I would have cropped about 5% of the image width from the right hand side, but I'm not suggesting it's worth doing now, as I'm sure you have already cropped where you thought it was correct.

Thanks Dave. I am never sure how much to crop. When enough is enough. Were you thinking of the rule of thirds?

    It can be tricky

    No, I wasn't.

It's just that what's in that right hand 5% isn't really contributing and it gives him/her a bit more space to look in to. (if you know what I mean)

    Re: Chillin!

Nice dog and he is certainly dressed for the weather. I love the classic "small keg" look.

I don't think the catch lights work, given the direction the dog is looking in. If anything it makes it look as if there is something seriously wrong with his eyes. If there are catchlights in the original shot, I might think about enhancing them a touch, but putting something in that doesn't look right usually does not work all that well.

What I would do instead, is to dodge the dog's head to bring out more detail in the fur and face. The eye will become more visible there. I don't know how well Lightroom does this, but in Photoshop (and I don't use the dodge tool), I can get some of the details out of the shadow side.

Thanks Manfred. I see what you mean. Not sure what in Lightroom is equivalent to the 'dodge tool' but will look at it.
