Hello from the cold South (USA)

    Good Morning!
I am a beginner/novice (?) shooting all types of "findings".
    From landscape, macro, birds, fisheye...
Everything is basically SOOC, except resized or cropped images. So...lots and lots to learn!

This is an interesting site! Lots to learn I see, so I will shortly begin
    to do much reading here!

    Thanks for having me... :-)

    Hi Chayelle,

A warm welcome to the CiC forums from me.
That's pretty good focus, given the associated issues shooting these type of critters, well done.

I appreciate you said this was effectively SOOC, so I thought I'd show how I would tackle a little further post processing on this (if I had shot it).
You'll notice that I have cloned some 'distractions' out and not everyone is happy doing that, it is the photographer's choice.

As I didn't ask your permission first; if you'd rather I hadn't posted the edited image, just let me know and I'll remove it.

Someone may ask about your settings; so I reproduce these from the EXIF data: Nikon D700, 90mm, 1/640s, f/3.5, iso 200.
Macro subjects are almost always shot with better Depth of Field - a narrower aperture such as f/11 or f/16, but the downside would be a reduced shutter speed and/or raised ISO, which could give issues with camera shake/subject movement blur and/or increased image noise.

You may find the first post in this thread allows you to get better responses sooner: How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images

    Hope that helps, Dave

Thanks Dave! This is some helpful input. I think I saw this guy and he was moving so quickly (did not
like his picture taken) that I did not even think about the settings. But that gives me a lot of starting room
    for future attempted captures!

Appreciate your taking time even in finding and posting the exif, and re-working the pic!! (Do not mind your
    assistance at all)
Thanks again. And I will go over and check the linked thread...

    Dave...
I belief you did more than the clone of the white trash in my original.
The bug seems to pop more in what you did (?)

    Yes, I did this:
Increased the exposure by (from memory) 2/3 stop
Some other minor adjustments to blacks, highlights and shadows (sorry, I should have taken a screen shot of the adjustments)
    Increased Clarity (+30)
All above in Adobe Camera RAW, all below in PhotoShop CC 2014
Cloned out the white spot - I since noticed I may have accidentally also removed the farthest part of out of focus leg beside the white spot (my bad)
    Spot healed two black spots
Smart Sharpen (from memory; Amount 100%, Radius 0.5)

The bold text items are the major 'pop' improvers

In addition, if mine, I might crop a little more off left hand edge, say 5% image width.

I saw this guy and he was moving so quickly (did not
like his picture taken) that I did not even think about the settings.
    I can well imagine

Glad to be of help, Dave
