Yes, Lightroom in particular more or less requires a particular way of working (though I know some try to side step it). It makes sense to me, but then my background is computer systems and dbms, and I am happy to work that way. If friends ask me about which software to use, I will certainly mention Lightroom, but always with that caveat.
