Backlit figures in alleyways, long shadows these things always fascinate me. way too much time watching movies I expect.

Love it, has a bit of a "watercolour" feel to it.
I keep seeing this guy in my dreams. Who is he!!
I like that Sharon. My only thought is that you might tone down the pure white areas on the right and at the bottom. Thoughtful work.
One of your very best. This image has such natural balance.
Hi Sharon: I like the diagonal placement of the entrance to the long hallway. I actually like the positioning of the white areas angled at the sides. It makes me think that the figure is "our hero" and he came from a bright and normal place with the intent to rescue us from the darkness. Interpreting your art is always such fun.
Really like your work
Ah, you guys make loitering around the underbelly of the city so worthwhile....
Thank you Mark, Chris and John
Interesting comments by John 2 and Suzan re the white areas. Initially I thought the same as you John and tried toning them down or removing them but it just didn't have the same feel. It was a bit of critique I felt would come up and I am glad it did and Suzan 'actively' likes them.
.......and if Mr Buckley tells me it has natural balance, who am I to disagree...thanks Mike.
No, no, no! Don't change the white areas. They help provide the balance!
Love your processing on this one. It's very thought provoking as to the mystery man.
It is great Sharon, loved it !
I love images with the subject lit from behind like this, though have never done any monochrome. It could be as Suzan J says, a hero coming out of the light to rescue us from the dark areas, could equally be a sinister figure backlit to confuse and disorientate...
Either way I love the image... and it is to each of us what it is. We can interpret it many ways, or simply love it as a superb enigmatic image.
[QUOTE=John 2;493761]I certainly wouldn't remove them. If you did, the dark negative space on the LHS becomes too dominant. They just pull a bit at the moment and for me that upsets the overall tonal balance. What I had in mind was something like:
John, it is a much smoother image and thank you for working on it....the eye flows through he shot much more easily in your rendition.
However...I kinda wanted the viewer to feel 'jittery and unsure'...to keep checking for the unexpected.in the highlights and shadows. i wanted to convey an 'ambiguity'
I hope that makes some kind of sense to someone.
Rich
Donna, Rich...and my dear Binnur.....thank you all for your comments and appreciation.
Ambiguity indeed. I keep trying to determine if the figure is walking into, or away from, the light, and in either case what then do the light and dark symbolize? I have an idea but then it changes each time I view this image.
I like it. I'll just add that I think it works better with the white on the edges. And I like that eye in the shadow near the centre.
Very nice to see you posting again Sharon. I missed you.
