    Hi Peter,

You're right, he did. I tried to replicate his results (my first experiment with Aperture's sharpening tool) and got pretty close, I think. I'd show you my results in colour and B&W but my Flickr uploader is not working for me tonight.

Btw, if Wendy says you're one of us, that's good enough for me, mate. Pleased to meet you, eh?

Nor did I. I agree it doesn't matter. With a photo like this it's all about getting the eyes in focus. If you get that, then the rest will work (usually).

I did this one a long time ago and wasn't happy, but others thought it was okay because I got the eyes.

Donald, that is what pet photography is about to me. You have captured the nobility of that animal perfectly. The fuzzy muzz matters not at all when the overall result is this. We had a dog just like that (Jenny) when we first got married. She was terrified of thunder and used to hide under our bed. We went out for an hour one time but left the child lock on the bedroom door by mistake. It thundered...we rushed back only to find the bedroom door jam chewed to bits, covered in blood and two of her teeth embedded in the wood. Horrible lesson for us to learn but Jenny was there tail wagging and jumping through hoops with joy to see us.

Did anyone see 'How to Take Stunning Photos' last night? I dont usually watch it because I have to use subtitles and they have a nasty habit of getting in the way of the more alluring features of Suzy Perry...alas the penance of deafness

Check this guy out. He was doing the mentoring on last nights show

I love it. It conveys something about the essence of dogs (at least most of the dogs I know): intelligence, watchfulness, patience. It conveys a mood. I like photos that capture "being" and this one cetainly does that. Thank you.

Hi, first post in the thread

Here's a picture of my dog one afternoon. The background isn't terribly amazing (thinking back I maybe should have used a larger aperture, this was taken at f/8.0, for smaller depth of field) but I just think he looks so peaceful:

    Hello!

I know I haven't posted anything in quite some time and since my last post I ahve adopted a 10 year old Sheltie/Retriever mix who has completely won over my heart. Her name is Harper and though she's not incredibly active, she doesn't sit still for the camera very well. I will be posting more photos soon. C&C welcome!

P.S. If there's another way to post pictures please let me know. Last I was on here there was a limit of how many attachments one could have.

    Thank you!

    Sarah

    welcome back.

The place to go to learn all about posting images is here. You should then be able to get the images into the post at a better size.

That 'over-the-shoulder, am I not gorgeous' look gets you all the time, doesn't it? She looks beautiful.

Thank you, Donald! I will look further into that at home (the website is blocked from my work).

She is beautiful, thank you! I have to get her a darker bed or lay down a dark sheet for a while so I can get a better contrast with her fur. Will post more soon!

    Hi Sarah,

Good to have you back again and say "Hi" to Harper for me.

Yes there are many ways - not that I suspect you're anywhere near the limit of attachments yet.

Have a look here; HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?

Regarding C&C on the pictures; the first is reasonable, not too busy a background, but a bit of pet-eye that could be fixed in PP with a bit of cloning.

The second one is really nice; good exposure, framing, focus, tones, etc. - the only minor distraction is what looks like a bald fur patch on poor Harper's side. Well done, this one is definitely 'above average'.

    Cheers,

    Re: Missy (revisited)

I thought it unfair to post a new image of Mack without including his mate Missy (short for Mischief)

I'm really glad to be back and posting some decent pictures. Yes, it was quite a big bald patch. She was a stray when the Humane Society found her and her fur was so matted they had to shave it (luckily not all of it). I'll do some PP with it this weekend and repost. I'll have to clone out the pet-eye in the first one too (was just trying to get a decent picture of her in her new halloween sweater.)
    Thanks for the input!
