    Re: Callie

This is Leila. She is retriever mixed bred. A very loving puppy. She is the neighbors puppy but is at our house just as much as she is home. She is the smallest of the 6 dogs between both houses but she rules the roost.

She looks Lovely Sam - her eyes are sharp & her personality shines through.
We have a Golden called Dream - who is very much loved as I'm sure is Leila.

Thanks Kay. I personally like them better than any other bred. They are so friendly and easy going dogs.

Thanks, Myra. I played and played with this and in the end did a good, big crop to set the attention on the dogs, who were previosly lost on the beach.

    Re: Arwen

Usually Tom is the featured feline. This time his birth sister, Arwen, is the subject. This is only the third shot taken with my brand new Canon 5D Mk2. Post-processing: sharpening using DPP after WB adjustment.

My very special cat who knows she is the boss...

This is my second attempt to list, such a great site been a fan for a while now. This was taken with a Lumix L3 as my Canon 50D spooks my cats, makes them camera shy.

Wow, I haven't checked in on the Pet thread for awhile. Lots of new ones. Nice to see and great job, Susan and David and Martyn and Kay and Sam... I think that's everyone since the last time I was here. I really must check in more often.

This is my aunt's cat Walter, I took it with the Canon Rebel XTI I have and a Tamron macro lens. I'm not sure what it's called specifically only because it's not here right now with me, otherwise I'd post that.

This is my friends Yorkie-Chihuahua mix at the park. I'm surrounded by small dogs where I live so these guys tend to be who I practice photographing the most. Also, this is my first post

    Hi Eric,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join with pictures so soon.

With your 'friend in the park' above, my initial thought was; "shame it isn't bigger in the frame", but that might have lost the sense of scale. It's a good exposure under difficult conditions though - we can see plenty of detail in the face and shadows.

As for Tinka, s/he looks like they don't get into much trouble anymore because they can't be bothered - great shot.

An impressive start, look forward to more

    Cheers,

    Hey Sahil,

You've been shooting with your 50/1.8 pretty well wide open again haven't you? - I reckon I can tell even if you block the EXIF

That's a painfully thin DoF and you've done very well manually focused, but I think it's still a bit soft (even when viewed full screen at 1024 high), I suspect the bird moved a bit during the exposure, there's not a lot you can do about that except up the shutter speed (and ISO). And of course more DoF would help ( more > ISO)

FWIW, I know I couldn't get close to that with a manual lens, so well done from me,

    Re: Pet portrait

Thanks for the kind words, Dave.
    Here is the EXIF.
    Shot at Aperture Priority mode.
    Exposure 0.04 sec (1/25)
    Aperture f/2.5
    Focal Length 50 mm
    ISO Speed 400

Now you can see how bad the light was. I am getting my room re-painted. Its too dark. There is never enough light
In 0.04 secs, the bird is sure to move. She was picking her seeds, when I took the shot. & yea, manual focusing is a pain when you don't have a stationery subject
Will buy a new body, but only next year. I am ripped off as of now
