    Hi Brian,

If I'm honest, as I know you'd want me to be, this Whimsey doesn't work for me.

I think it is the combination of the sharp PP applied frame and the out of focus and 'granular' subject within.

I can't think how any 'natural' piece of art (i.e. non-photographic) could achieve that.

If there's a prize to guess what it is - I think it is a (gold/brass) drawer handle with finger recess in a wooden drawer front.
I'm not sure if it was shot through frosted glass or if that is another post processing effect you've applied?
At first I thought it was just sensor/iso noise until I looked closely, then I saw the granular/mottled structure to it.

Well, the shot got me thinking anyway

    Hope that helps, Dave

I had a look at this earlier but was uncertain so left it for a while then returned to have a second view.

Probably, if you could have prevented the gold area from over exposing this would have worked. Very tricky to get the lighting perfect on a scene like this though.

Hi Dave and Geoff, It is an unusual shot and my first true effort at an Abstract. That both of you took the time to really look at it is good. That both of you found it ultimately lacking is not so good.

It was inspired by my addiction to F. Herbert's Dune.

Dave there is a painting technique called 'Pointilism'. Not that this shot is anything but a pale imitation of the link but it was one of the challenges for me in this shot.

Geoff you are correct the top section is a tad bright.

As for what it started out life as... would you believe a translucent screw driver handle?

I would far prefer to see it hanging on my wall like this Brian

Hmmm, so would I. What can I say but that I am a sucker for that wooden look in a frame. Definitely time to break the dependence.

Truth be told I just replaced my version with your version as my computer screen background.
