Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
By the way, I made a mistake capturing the second photo and am a bit miffed :D that none of you have mentioned it. I apparently didn't position a flag securely enough because it moved slightly and created my error in the image. I can correct the mistake during post-processing but haven't gotten around to doing that yet. The first person to identify the mistake I'm thinking of (there might be others) gets a virtual gold star on their forehead.
Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
The highlight on the rim of the glass. I didn't notice it simply because I was so mesmerized by the beauty of the first image.
I'd like my Gold Star in my signature, signed by you. :)

I can't deliver it to meet your precise requirements but please be assured that you are now the one and only recipient of the virtual gold star of the day.
The direct reflection that you identified provides absolutely no helpful information. Yet it disguises the color and shape of three straws that would have otherwise been displayed if I had prevented that reflection from happening. I'm confident the light was initially properly flagged and that the flag later moved just the tiniest amount before I captured the image. That small change allowed the light source to be reflected by the glass.

Love the first one! I see a 'malt shop' series of still lives in your future...bring on the ice cream scoops and some soda! Maybe you could buy some ice cream just so you could photograph the container in the new series I have imagined for you ;)
Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
Thanks, Shane!
Everyone,
Consider the following two comments, one from this thread and one from a different but very recent thread:

It's clear that we're all in trouble if Shane and Christina ever get together. Right now they're only about 2500 miles (4300 kilometers) apart; far too close. We simply can't afford the risk of their imaginations running wild and influencing each other. :D
Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
Dear Mike,
Downright sexy! The straws have a satiny smooth texture rather than a "hard" plastic feel.
The edges of the glass, especially in the lid, are limned in light.
The black is very rich.
Nice job.
Marie

Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
So, Christina....when are we meeting at Mike's place to coordinate the malt shop shoot?
It we triangulate things it's almost the same 4,500 miles or so for both of us to get to DC
You have spare bedrooms right Mike?

Lemme get this right: You expect a home that doesn't even have a "real" studio and only has a makeshift studio actually has spare bedrooms? Think again! :D
Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
Right now, I'm working and trying to concentrate but fun wins hands down! I think that as soon as the weather is a little warmer in DC that we should head down for a visit and wreak havoc in Mike's studio! Better yet, we should meet a few days prior and hold a brainstorming session! By the way the Malt Shop idea is absolutely brilliant!
I'll share a bedroom with Shane! What fun!

I do more than an ample job of wreaking havoc on my own and not just on my makeshift studio. No more help is needed from the two of you!
Re: Bouquet of Colorful Straws
Your wife wouldn't mind if we camped on the living room floor then? Perfect!
Seriously though you need to figure out a way to humor us so we don't show up on your doorstep with cameras and sleeping bags :D BTW I'm sure the dollar store sells ice cream scoops and all sorts of appropriate props!

We actually have a nice sleep sofa that will easily accommodate the two of you. The issue is that I'm not about to let the two of you team up with my wife. I'm crazy but I'm not suicidal!
