Interesting. The one is definitely a juvie, just getting his red top. I'm not sure if they change colors during breeding season like so many other birds. The ones we get up here the males tend to be the darker, brownish plumage and the females are grey. But that's based on limited observation during a very limited part of the year.

Dan they are very new to me so I have no idea. This may actually be 2 females. There was a group of about 10 and I just shot these three, found them interesting. Loved that the juvie was more orange eyed than red.

Another nice composition. I think the image is a little overexposed. May be you can reduce the exposure just a little bit and add some contrast and clarity , in order to bring out the colors and details on the birds some more.

Thanks Binnur, I will try your suggestions. They are an interesting group of birds and each time I ve been able to shoot them it's been VERY overcast, perhaps it has led me to overexpose them.

My feelings too. Add a touch of micro contrast and overall contrast. If you have Nik filters, adding contrast and some structure in Vivesa would do it. ....but a very nice grouping.
