    Thompson River Canyon rainy day

Usually this area is very dry as it is in the rain shadow of the Coast Mountains in BC. When I was traveling south, enroute to a conference, it was raining. I saw this rocky outcrop high on a mountain near the start of the Thompson River Canyon and slammed on the brakes. My wife is accustomed to my photographic weirdness by now so there was only a momentary questioning of my sanity.

That was definitely worth wry looks and a bit of ear bending. Excellent image.

Is that the canyon that the AlCan runs through? I've only driven the highway once(round trip). There is was a deep river gorge in BC that was absolutely full of deer. We also saw more wolves on that one drive than in 15 years in Alaska.

This is in Southern BC, southwest of Kamloops and on the way to Vancouver on the TransCanada highway (highway 1). These are the exact coordinates of the shot location 50°24'23.17" N 121°21'40.55" W

Thanks, Trevor. That's a different spot than I was thinking of. But I do remember driving up that valley. We towed a boat all the way back from Portland,OR.

Looks good, particularly with that little patch of blue sky.

I tried several crops. Finally decided to keep all the lines and curves of the clouds and the blue sky patch. Just seems a stronger image with everything included. As usual, rules of composition are there to be broken whenever needed In this case: keeping the composition simple.

I am sure it will, if it has not already.

Maybe I should show you the 50 crappy shots where the clouds blurred the rocks/trees, the tripod shook or the focus was miles off. Fortunately for me I cannot as they all reside in the trash now.
