That's an understatement! I just love the way you post-processed this. It has characteristics of being a watercolor while retaining the look of a photo. When I consider the quality of light that would normally accompany such long shadows, I marvel at the quality of light displayed here.
And in addition to Mike's comments, I think it is an excellent composition. Initially I thought, 'People - AAARGH'. But they work. They add to the image (try seeing without them there and it is not so good). They give the sense of scale.
Composed as it is, we are told the cathedral is part of an wider environment and is amongst other buildings.
Thanks Mike, to be honest its the stone that does most of the work on this one - its a fab soft light brown sandstone and strong light on it makes it glow as on left side but it absorbs it rather than reflects harshly so its really is nice to work with, the photo was taken about 12:30
Thanks Donald, you are correct - I looked at the shot and liked the composition but waited for the people in a 'neat' group to put scale on it along with the door being open to tell the story in effect. It was a good day for luck
I think you did an awesome job on this shot. As others have said, the lighting and details that you brought out are excellent!
Thank you Donna, much appreciated it was a great subject to attempt and a bit out of my comfort zone so very gratifying that you like it.
thank you Donald, much appreciated, I just checked my folder - I have 5 shots with the group in - at various points in the space and I distinctly recall initially sizing up the image and waiting to get people in the shot. I have no shots of the scene with no people in it!
I guess its that subconcious thing of you 'knowing' when a shot is right
Beautiful shot! My eye is drawn in and once there bounces around finding all kinds of goodies!
This is a great one -- different than any "normal" cathedral shot. I am late to this party, but I can honestly say that I love the way you think...
Nice shot Mark, I noticed as well that the people are dressed colour-coded to the cathedral
Cheers John,
Mike, - ahh so thats why i got the strange looks
Thank you Barbara, appreciated
Izzie, thanks - dont get told that very often
Matt, good spot, did not click on that till you said
Great image, the people give dimension to the shot and IMO make it a far better image than just stone and mortar...
