    Timberwolf

We spent a few hours at Parc Omega, near Montebello, Quebec, Canada.

The timberwolves there are one of my favourite subjects. This was one of 11 wolves we saw this afternoon.

Gorgeous shot! He looks like a house pet except for those claws and slits it has for eyes! I never knew the claws were so prominent but then again I have never seen one up close and personal The texture of the snow is lovely as well!

Well done shot. I feel it conveys the majesty of these animals. I am quite irritated the BC government has taken the stance of shooting wolves to protect the Mountain Caribou when the real problem for the decline is habitat loss.

Gorgeous animal. Magnificent being. Man's treatment of these is emblematic of his general problem with grasping his relation to the natural world. The difference between myself and someone who could shoot and kill one of these suggests homo sapiens is not comprised of a single species. And Trevor is right - good evidence suggests "big game" populations are not enhanced in the long run by killing predators, but are by habitat restoration - I think the practice is some sort of weirdly misplaced jealousy.

Much evidence has it that the wolf is a fully mature dog, or, put the other way, the selection of wolf traits for domestication in dogs has resulted in the dog having the characters of a juvenile wolf. The wolf's brain is 1/3 larger than that of an equivalent sized dog. Their resourcefulness, complex behaviors, and rich social structures reflect this.

Beautiful shot, Manfred. I love the regal expression. This particular animal looks very healthy with a nice thick winter coat. I agree with Trevor on the BC wolves issue. The issue there is not a wolf problem, but rather a misguided people problem. How close were you to this marvellous creature?

A very good looking animal and you captured it so well. The details of that beautiful coat really stand out against the snow. Actually, it looks very content to pose for you. I am also a big fan of wolves and get upset when people only see one side of their co-existence with other animals. Parc Omega seems like a super place to view wildlife. Do you go there very often?

Great shot, reckon Stagecoach wasn't far off with their comment, however, I feel that it was more a matter of 'I wonder just what you taste like'

    Re: Timberwolf

Manfred, a really great shot of an iconic animal that is an apex predator. We interfere and 'cull' at the detriment of the natural order causing the problems we then blame on the other animal. We need to remember its taken a long time to evolve into a stable and balanced ecology that we then disrupt when it suits us and then deny ownership and responsibity!

on a ligher note - I bet no one said 'good doggy'

An exceptional photo in every way! If you view it without displaying it at its largest size, you're really missing out.
