    Dragonfly

This shot proved to be more difficult than it probably looks. It was shot hand held at 600mm on a windy afternoon so the subject was swinging rather irregularly through about a 5 - 6 inch arc and was backlit to make exposure just a little more difficult but I'm happy with it. Thank goodness for IS, VR, VC, OS or whatever else manufacturers want to call stabilisation.

Like John said, nice composition and I love the detail. Especially the wings. My only gripe is that the background is a little bright.

Nice image Graham. Exposure looks good , did you use spot metering?

It may be a classic dragonfly pose, but I do like this one. You captured excellent details against the bright background, plus you were dealing with the wind.

I like the composition and frame but I think it's a bit dark. I suppose the bright background played a little havoc with your metering, which is something I struggle with. (among other things). I can't help but think these little creatures are best shot on sunlit days to best portray their full color spectrum.

The background looks OK to me. In my experience, when a white background looks too bright it means that the computer screen is set too bright.

This is a nice shot and I know from experience how hard this kind of shot can be.

I was in manual mode Binnur. F6.3, 1/800, 600mm, ISO 200. It was moving around in the wind so much that any camera metering would have been confused.

It actually was a sunny afternoon with a few clouds (one of which was behind the subject) but the sun was not far out of frame on the right and about level with the subject so it's essentially back lit and before PP was almost a silhouette but I do agree, it's nice to get a better light angle and more colour.

I am with Chris here. The background is glaring but then I am here on my laptop tonight so it may not be the correct colour I am looking at ... even if I position my screen, the face is still a little bit dark.

I'm suprised to hear that it was shot with manual settings. Congrats again for being so succesful with a backlit moving subject in the wind !
