It is a beauty Nicola and I think you don't even need HDR to make it better. I love the colour of the sky and the misty impression of those waves (I am guessing that you used a slower shutterspeed here and that it wasn't real mist).

I read this thread by Jiro the other day (My workflow procedure as requested by Rob.) and some of the techniques in there would be suitable here as well I guess. I am still trying them out and noticed that there is the risk of some increase in noise, but they do make photos pop a bit more.

You shooted in very hard conditions: the contrast was really high! let me say some possible improvements, in my humble opinion. first of all I think you have to decide what is your subject : the sky (over the city) or the water (under the city ) if the sky, you have to underexpose the picture in order to recover the burned withe area on the clouds and make the sky more dramatic; doing so you will lost any details on the city (that are barely visible, and so not so important), that turns to be a silouette. oh, I've forgot, cut the water in order to place the city in the lowest third of the frame. If the water, cut the sky just above the buildings and "turn on" the light to make visible the details of the city These operations could be done with the post processing software, if it is a raw file, but the best way is to shot again A circular polarized filter could help you very much in these conditions.... cheers Nicola ...
    Excellent analysis Nicola. Well said
And thank you Satomi for posting here

    It a good work Nicola
Last time I did something similar the waves hit the rocks and some water was spilled over myself and the lens
It looks indeed that some lens corrections are necessary but the final result is quite interesting. I assume you have a CPF
However, there are two little things, oh well it's just one in fact, to point: the red triangle in the middle of the rocks and a little too red area at the area in the bottom right.
How long was the exposure ? 15 seconds ? Which aperture ?
Thank you for posting here Nicola

It is a wonderful image I would be proud of; thankyou for sharing it.
    Thanks Steve for your analisys!
I'm going to edit all that you've suggested. I've never corrected my lens before but it's now the time for.
to be honest, I have already seen the bright triangle in the middle, but I haven't cropped it before because I wasn't so proud for this image and I didn't want to spend much more time for PP...
but your (and other members') comment leads me to appreciate more this picture...
    cheers

I lik ebest the second one with that small twisted river. The light is fine. It just looks that the sky was overcast...

    Hi Dave

A couple of very nice images, well done.
Can you believe I live on the edge of the Cotswold's and have not done much photography around the villages, usually because they are so full of tourists.
After seeing your images I think I may just plan to get out and try and find a quiet location or two.
Where about's in the Cotswold's did you take them?

    I'm inspired.

    Regards

    Chris

You just jumped in with a nice photo Welcome to Cambridge in Colour !
Yes here is a good place with nice people :9
Your photo is fine, well composed and pleasant to look at. Personally I like the reflections and the two trees in the inverted V shape

I dared to work on your image to make it pop a bit more and to apply some sharpening which it lacks IMHO.
I also changed the crop factor to 3/4 and cloned what looks like to be a traffic signal.
Of course the quality is very poor because it has been copied from the web
I am sure you can get it better mainly if you are shooting raw files.
BTW - Here is a good reading about image sharpening.

If you wish I can erase permanently the image I made for you.

    Hi Chris

Thanks for the compliment. Those tourists are a real pain aren't they The first shot was taken just on the edge of Bourton on the Water and the second just up the road at Lower Slaughter.

    Cheers Dave

    Hello Reed and Antonio

This is a nice peaceful shot and I like the angles in it. I think Antonio's editing gives a real "zing" to it.

    Cheers Dave
