Dave, you have taken a very pretty picture but...with judicious PP it could be tons better by
making the bird seed go away. Whenever I think that I may have captured that magic moment,
I always take a follow-up image that has been physically cleaned up, cleaning up the seed, and
blending it into the original image.

Really a fine shot with great detail considering what appears to be low light conditions.

What is that thing on it's leg? ...is that a real bird or is that a "Made in China" tag?

Great image; yes, the feed is very bright and distracts a bit; and to my surprise i too notice the thing on the leg; is that some kind of sensor?

Just a crop from the bottom and left side to reduce the amount of seed would be helpful.

Many UK birds (and in a lot of other countries) are ringed with an identification number when chicks so if they get caught by bird experts, or are found dead, the number can be used to discover information about their age and movements.

    Dave, nice image well captured,

The bird is 'ringed' to gather stats as Geoff says, have a look here for more info its a very carefully managed process and you have to be trained and licensed to do it - http://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys...ringing-scheme

Thanks Mark, wondered how they ringed the birds. All the images I took yesterday in Delamere Forest, Cheshire, had rings on them. Obviously many of the images would or could have been of the same birds but never noticed the rings till I got home and put on my monitor.

The Chinese are good Texas, but not that good to make this lovely bird.

This to me is a lovely image... I see what the others mean about the seed, but it doesn't detract in any way for me...

The leg ring is a minor detail... but somehow it enhances the shot for me... no idea why!!! but it does....
