    March morning C&C welcome

While waiting for the sun to fully rise and just basically loitering on a rural road, I saw this developing and thought it had potential. A quiet image. I like the interaction of light and shadow on the prairie.

In the final image I decided the dark shadow in the foreground needed to remain.

Very nice, the moon looks like it's resting on the cloud.

A beautiful image Trevor, I can feel the warmth of the morning sun and the sound of ...... nothing.
The dark foreground works for me as well, to me it shows the transition from night to day.

It works well Trevor, catching the moon at sunrise is something I have not accomplished before but have planned.

Very nice scene, Trevor...and I agree with you -- quiet. Love the colour.

I like it, Trevor. I suspect the color police will be by eventually to tell you that the FG snow should be "corrected". Don't you do it!

indeed a calm morning scene - I especially like the transition from the blue snow in the foreground through the oranges to the blue sky on top. When looking at the picture, approaching meditation (without the help of a guru, I dare to say).

Had you been there you would have heard the sound of a 60 to 80 km wind in the trees behind me. I had to hide behind the car to stop the tripod shaking in the wind. Fortunately it was 8C so quite tolerable. The sun was also very warm.

I cropped this without the shadow and it was a complete failure. I am sure someone with more insight then me into human psychology can explain why the shadow needs to be there.

The colour police will be outraged when they discover I actually made the snow a bit cooler to mirror the sky colour. Hah!

One of my favourite pastimes is just standing alone on the open prairie in the quiet. I gather it is actually meditation as I concentrate on the physical sensation (sight, sound, wind, smell) of being there and stop my internal dialogue.

That shadow helps make a two-dimensional photo appear three-dimensional.

You are quite the rebel, aren't you?

I think the only natural place that I've ever been that was completely silent was the north slope of Alaska on a still winter night. Downright eerie. There is a big difference between actual silence and what we consider quiet in every day life.

I knew someone would have an answer. Probably bang on as with no shadow the image is a dull as dishwater.

There is a some manmade noise in my environment. Even at 5 am there is always a hint. There may be gaps of several minutes where it is minimal but it is always there. Add the wind and other natural noise and it certainly is not silent.
I have been told before that the high Arctic or Antarctic on a still night are the only silent places on earth. Must be interesting.

    Very nice scene Trevor.
Unfortunately my tinnitus won't allow me to enjoy total quiet ever again.
