Spider In Web

Haven't really tried to take shots of insects and other small things before. Quickly took this shot while on a hike last year. Not really sure how well it works.

Nice effort, not familiar with spider species but this one appears elongated beyond the norm. Was this taken with a telephoto lens?

I'm not a bug guy (oh the pity ) but it looks pretty well done to me.

If it was me, Kyle, I would crop the right side to concentrate more on the spider and the clearly focused parts of the web. Maybe 4 x 5 ratio? But a rotation could be considered and would give a totally different view. I'm not saying it would produce anything better though.

Rather looks like the Araneus diadematus spiders which we get in the UK.

It was taken with my 55-250, John. Thanks for sharing your photo Marie. I can see we had similar ideas in mind for these shots.

Geoff, it does look like the species you mentioned. The first image on google that I got looked exactly like what this was.
I tried both of your suggestions. I think the crop works well, though it was already heavily cropped (and taken at 3200 ISO so it's quite noisy).



I also tried a few different rotations. They do make quite different photos. This one looks interesting but I think I like the original rotation better.

Sometimes I find I have to rotate the image before I can make an identification. Nothing logical here although possibly it then resembles the book image more closely.

Have you tried lightly going over the noisy areas with a soft Blur Brush; say 10 to 30% and vary the application as required?
