Lovely captures... Beautiful light on the bird, and great timing. Bonus... most amusing captions!

Re: Herons Fishing Technique
Great shots ... 'am tempted to add my own talkies but it will not be appropriate for readers and viewers of this forum, especially at the last shot.... I love the first pose though, followed by the second...without each of these succeeding shots, there will not be a story here I reckon...
Thanks for the laughs....

Thank you all for commenting on these fun shots.
I was out looking for herons in flight when I came across this guy and managed to get into a comfortable position sat on a bank and observe him for a long time. Although he was too far away for my 300mm (these are cropped by about a third) I recognised the beauty of the background mangrove habitat with the sun on it and reflection of the colour in the water.
Apart from the basic noise reduction and sharpening I placed a radial gradient on these centred at the eye area and adding a fairly heavy vignette to draw the eye more to him as an experiment.
Just as I sat down to type this out there was a loud crash against the glass of one of my large sliding balcony doors and then a bird flew into the room. It was one of the rare Kingfishers you see here and I have just spent 10 minutes in amazement that of all the delicate things it flew around and landed on it did no damage but more so that I was able to get so close when it rested and just study it.
Eventually I managed to guide it back outside and he flew off, no doubt relieved.

Pleased you liked the humour. I took many shots of this guy and it was his actions when not stood there with the perfect pose that made me laugh. There's still another couple to PP where he's having a good old scratch so will post when completed.
