The guy and the kids has a lot of competition there...this is a beautiful shot, Barbara. The inclusion of the kids and their dad is the bonus here for human interest..but it left me wondering how it would look like if you waited a little bit for the guy to catch something and see what happened and what the birds will do?
Very nice.
Thanks Izzie, Actually I don't think he ever caught anything He and the kids walked out onto the shell jetty, where all the pelicans were sleeping causing them to wake up and fly. It was at that moment that I caught the shot. It was so spectacular in person but the shots I got with just the birds did not give the same feeling as when I saw it. This is only about 1/3 of them as the rest flew in 2 opposite directions.
Such a great eye, Barbara!
Consider digitally removing the pelican in the top left corner and the pelican between the father and daughter.
Also consider converting to monochrome using a green, almost blue, filter. The birds stand out a little more for me in monochrome. On the other hand, I like how the color version makes the brightly colored clothes stand out. The color of the clothes complement each other so nicely! For me, the use of color or monochrome in this image depends on which characteristics you want to emphasize.
If you want the birds to stand out more in the color version, you could apply a stronger S-curve. However, doing so removes the haze from the sky and distant water, and in so doing also removes the dreamy look of the scene.
Another way of making the birds stand out is to select them and to apply increased contrast. This method would be my choice for enhancing the color version.
Notice the number of options that I tried. That's only because your image is so nice to begin with. Very well done!
Kudos, Barbara. I'd have been all excited about the getting a great bird shot and have totally missed this greater story, which makes a very special image.
It is great wall hanger by the living room, Barbara...
One more thought, Barbara: Perhaps add a very slight vignette, one that you wouldn't notice until you remove it.
I think the CIC Gremlins are back as I don't see anyone fishing but rather a girl in a white tee shirt and jean shorts... I think it's a teenage Miley Cyrus.

Nice shot, Barbara. When I get to the beach there are no pelicans; now I know where they are.
Hi Barbara. Very nice image and it reminds me my childhood and I really miss those days . I'm sure some others feel the same thing. So, I would try a B&W conversion as Mike suggests, that would give the image a nostalgic look.
I really like this composition, Barbara, you captured it at just the right moment for me. I find it has a certain nostalgia about it, too, but also a fair degree of escapism about it. If it were mine I would try a high key effect.
Love it Babara. What a wonderful story and a perfect composition.
