    Hey, Barbara, this guy is in breeding colors. Brown neck feathers and red pouch. I think the image you posted a while back of one with a mangy looking neck was molting prior to getting into breeding plumage. Nice detail and colors on this one.

    Your comment made me go research (shame on you) I knew the truly brown ones were juveniles, I find them a little ugly and rarely capture them. I always thought it was odd that they were called brown pelicans when they are much more a silver or grey color, The colors are so beautiful and I love catching all the different ones. Yesterday there were probably 100 or more at the dike it was spectacular. I have more shots that I will be sharing later. One of my favorite things to watch is them waking up ,the pouch stretches are fascinating.

    These are the kind of information that are so useful when you get them...hoping to go back to Florida next month for my birthday but I opted to have a new lens for my camera...the pelicans over there can wait. I want my lens replacement...
