    I've been railroaded

Okay, crappy title. Sorry 'bout that. But I was wandering around a small country town called Avenel and, as I walked over the railway crossing, this view sort of caught my eye, despite its evident simplicity and lack of eye catching drama. Just one of those things I guess. As they say, you had to be there at the time.
Thanks for taking a peek and for leaving a comment, if you feel so inclined to do so.

Strong lead lines can make an image though Ken. My own instinct would be to convert this to mono and carefully increase the contrast to make the highlights on top of the rails really stand out.

John and Matt, thank you for your helpful feedback. I had a go at what you suggested. But as I am not very expert at monotone conversions, my end result probably leaves much to be desired. Left me feeling I preferred the coloured version. But then, as I say, I am lacking in monotone conversion skills. Others with expertise in this area would no doubt do better.

I think I prefer the color version; the mono could work if you crop out the bleak sky.

I can see why you made this, Ken. I think the mistiness of the far distance added to its appeal.

+1 to Mark's comment. There is something about mists in nature to catch your attention completely in a scene.

Very good perspective here and the tracks seem to go on for ever!

But I wonder if the right side is looking slightly 'heavy' ? Not sure what to suggest for an alternative? A little crop from right and top? But you don't want that sign too close to the edge.

Me? Well, I would, wouldn't I - Leave the top, bottom and left hand side and crop the right-hand side to make it a 1:1 (square) image.

I like that. No-one else might.

But it's a very good image to start with.

I like the image ,IMO a square crop would also look nice.

I like the mono version, Ken, but I would lose the sign on the right (ie clone it out, don't 'farm' the frame)
