Interesting Matthew...might qualify for one of many Trevor's images of old structures gracefully fading...I like that right side window depicting the structure itself. Nice find...You might want to delete that powerline post near it though as it does not belong to this shot...

Matthew - great setting and composition. Too bad about the harsh lighting you had at the time.

I suspect you would get a shot had this been shot during the morning or evening "magic hour" where the lighting is softer and more pleasing. If I find a subject that is this interesting / photogenic, I will try to get back and take it in better lighting conditions.

I'd say you found your Kodak moment. With all the various textures this one begs to be rendered in B/W.

The B&W looks great. One if the things that lifts it to me is that the dark side of the building is now slightly lightened and more visible.

Yep, you got that Kodak moment Matthew. This has great potential as already said for shooting with different lighting.

I like the B/W. Hopefully some of the experts will chime in with some tips on how to pull out the detail a bit more. That's an interesting location.

    Re: Chugwater Silo

Just reduce the opacity of the vignette and that should help make it less obtrusive. I wonder if removing the perspective distortion (keystoning) from shooting upwards might help too.

That being said, I still find that the harsh lighting you were working under is the main "issue" in both the colour and B&W versions. The quality and direction of the light are extremely important in this type of shot and the lighting you were working with was not anywhere near ideal.

For anyone thats driven north from colorado on I-25, Chugwater is about an hour from Cheyenne and pretty much just a rest stop... there is, however, Chugwater Chili ( probable available online ) other then that its just a bend in the road....... and yes it was around 2:30 in the afternoon when i was going through

Sharp as a tack. Tough in that light but you did well all considered.
