Nice shot Blake.
If I could offer a few suggestions:
1. Portraits work very well in B&W. This one certainly does. I assume the background is multi-coloured, and this approach eliminates any negative influence that the background might have.
2. I find that you've gone a touch too hard in the contrast in this shot. I'd be tempted to tone things down a touch. You might get away with a more contrasty shot with a male, but generally a softer touch works better on a woman. I find you've lost a bit of the skin tonality.
3. I put a gentle vignette around most of my portraits, just to downplay the background a bit and put more prominence on the subject. I think this would be useful on this shot.
I'm looking at it on my phone now and it looks way brighter than on my computer. Confirmed this with a friend's computer. Looks like I need to fix my calibration again.
Looking good to me.
Just a couple of very slight background tweaks for me.
The top of the waterfall is a little distracting particularly being so close to her head.
Tiny bright areas; on her left thumb, on the fence below her elbow and to the left of her left toe. And a couple of very small bright spots scattered around the background. Otherwise looking perfect.
Second version looks much better
Blake - the second edit is certainly a step in the right direction, but I still find it a bit too hard (i.e. contrasty) for my taste. We are starting to see skin texture in Erin's face, so this is a good thing.
