Nice set, Barbara. Aren't these guys fun to shoot? You got eyes visible on all three shots. No easy feat. Position of the bird in the first shot is awesome followed closely by the second. My only suggestion is to try leaving a bit more breathing room if you have it in the originals.

Thanks Dan, yes they are fun but I am sure I have 3 times the number of bad shots as I do good. Just when I thought I had it nice and in focus they swung around the other way i am sure as I try more it will get easier or at least I hope so. I think on 2 of them I have a little more room but on one of them none. What are your thoughts on sharpening?

Great set Barbara. I can only imagine how hard it is to track them at that speed, something my lens would not be up to

As mentioned already, a simple sort of the CA and more work with the sharpening will push these up.

Thanks Grahame! I plan on fixing both. I just need to figure out how it just takes time and patience and I have very little of the latter. Lucky for me I do have time

Well done Barbara they are fabulous shots. How many did you have to delete on your way to these great keepers?
Ps. The first one is my favourite as well but that doesn't in any way take away from the other two.

Thanks Graham! I am sure I deleted more shots than I would like to admit to

    Now my turn -[-

In #1 I think it needs more contrast to make it pop out...
#2 is really good but a bit cramp for comfort in the framing.
#3 is just wonderful -- the lightness and brightness of #1 and what lacks in #2 in the framing, you have given it all to this one.

Altogether, all excellent shots. And for a fast bird like that, I admit I won't be able to keep up...

(P.S. -- learning how to use aperture all day yesterday, thanks to you...)

Barbara, these are stunning shots. I'm totally jealous. I usually get to see terns just once a year on our annual trip to the Isles of Scilly and I hardly ever get close to them - except on evening boat trips when we see them sitting on buoys!

Pulling out a bit more detail would be good. Since you use OnOne, I'd go into the effects panel and try a couple of different methods and see which one does best w/out unwanted artifacts. I'd try a simple detail brush, dynamic contrast on small detail only, and sharpening. See which one you like best.

No need to comment on the sharpening issue as everbody already did. I just want to say 'great captures'

Thanks Izzie! I am going to rework these at some point or perhaps try and find another group to shoot.

    Practice makes perfect my friend

John, Thank you! I must admit at first I shrugged them off as mere sea gulls which are EVERYWHERE here and very annoying but once I saw how they dove head first into the water to fish I was mesmerized by them! They move so swiftly and gracefully.
