Personally I like it much better in BW. The hand shadow might still be just a touch dark but definitely not as distracting as it was in the color version.
+1 to Richard's crop. That was what I was thinking in my initial comments on the image.
It does two things. First of all eliminates part of the image that really doesn't add anything and secondly brings our eyes right in on the artwork, pencil and artist's hand.
“Art is the elimination of the unnecessary.” ― Pablo Picasso
Richard's crop has done just that.
W O W ....thank you to All of you....
I had it cropped nearly the same in the meantime as Richard did, but wanted to show the original.........
Thanks again.....so I will not delete the image....keep it in B/W........I only have lately get more interested shooting B/W, but like it, here are two more images I shot yesterday in B/W......
* At the Market *
* Part of a War Memorial *
Griddi........
Two interesting images, Griddi.
I think going B&W on the first one looks like the right choice to me. It is such a busy scene, and the monochrome simplifies it. I suspect the colour version likely does not look as good.
As for the second one, yes it works in B&W as it goes well with the "classical" look of the monument. That being said, it might be equally strong or perhaps even stronger in colour. I suspect that the background colours are already fairly simple.
"At the Market" - this is a really, really good image. It's so busy with all the signage, the backs of the four women and the one half turned, the expression on her face is...well it makes the whole image. This is, IMHO a great image!
Edit - it's so good it looks staged. I know it's NOT staged, but I mean that as a compliment. It could literally be a frame from a movie. Great job.
Thank you for looking, and taking the time out for comments.....
As for the monument image.......I will try how it looks in colour, as there are not much of a colour anyway, as the two figures are a dark grey, and the angel is n a sandstone colour, but that said, I feel, as it is a war memorial, I am leaning more to keep it in B/W........
Best to you,
Griddi........
Jack.....WOW, and thank you for your comment......I had started to doubt myself, to shot something good........
This corner in the market is always very busy for breakfast time, and if I am at the market, it is my favorite spot to shot images.......
Greetings,
Griddi.......
I am complaining...I did not see your colour version post of the drawing hand...Richard's edit is very good as it got rid of all the distractions that isn't needed in the image.
I like your market scene. It is an excellent shot...
The memorial one, is good too but I am not keen on it, I wonder why....it must be me.
Griddi,
I looked at the colour one and agree with the comments, love the concept but the colours do it no justice, the B & W version is very much better, the tonality keeps the focus on the subject and while I can see what others say about the pencil placement and I agree there are better opportunities there - its a very good shot in itself. I love the breakfast bar shot, a great slice of daily life. The war memorial again I like the concept and the dynamics of it.
Nice tonality.
I like the crop and also two other BnW images
Ah ... now this is more like it...I love the whole overview of this image. You could have included this in the first place because to me at the time it looks "lacking" in something I cannot pinpoint...In war memorials, just like people and events, there is always a story to it and this one now completes the lack. I like shots that tells a story but sometimes it needs support like this one to add to the other one...it has a unique touch to it that now the feelings of the past evoke..
