What many will not get to see, but some may like to

Okay. First off. Explanation. These are pictures of opportunity taken more for historical interest. I know that technically they are probably real stinkeroosters. So please don't savage me too much by pointing out the long list of things that are wrong with them. I am well aware of their shortcomings.

Why did I post them? Well, they are shots taken of a local event which just may interest some members, being something they would never have otherwise had the opportunity to see.

They were taken at the Military Heritage Weekend here in Seymour at King's Park. They were part of the celebration which marked the 100 years anniversary since the Gallipoli Campaign in WW1. They are mainly pix of the Creswick Light Horse Squadron which re-enact the Light horse from those early days at these sorts of events. In this group there are now a good representation of women members. They all wear traditional light horse uniforms and accoutrements. All members of this troop now carry swords. However these were not issued to the original Light Horsemen

Also present on the day were serving members of armoured cavalry units from the nearby army camp. So we had examples of then and now, separated by 100 years. Hope some might find them of interest. Of course some won't. That is to be expected. Not a problem. Thanks for viewing and hope a few members may enjoy seeing a bit of ' History.'

As a foot note, for those who may be interested. Even though they were not so, they are traditionally referred to as Light Horse but were in fact Mounted Infantry, being armed as such. They normally rode into battle, dismounted, and fought on foot as infantry men. However, they did get involved in the odd cavalry charge, such as at Basheeba when they overran the the Turkish emplacements. They were not armed with swords or lances, as were cavalry, but used their 18in inch bayonets in lieu in any such mounted charges.

Lots of dappled light which is always difficult to photograph in. Nice efforts.

You cut the flag in #1 and cut some horse halfway...but otherwise, there is a piece of history there and all good shots...it must have been an enjoyable event to go to...

Nice captures... We here in the USA seem to do more reenactments of the American Civil War than any other costumed war reenactments.

We also have the same (I know this is not politically correct) problems in attempting historical accuracy. While the uniforms and accouterments are accurate, the prevalence of female reenactors tends to make the reenactment historically inaccurate...

Other inaccuracies are usually very heavyset reenactors - most of our Civil War soldiers (especially those from the South) were quite lean and underfed. Along with the overweight reenactors, the use of modern eyeglasses tends to diminish the accuracy of images.

I'd love to be able to view and photograph that group!
