That would be a cool way to do this. It would be so much cleaner I hate getting dirty. On some of these adventures, I stand up through the moon roof to get a better view On this trip, I had to get out when the birds were on my husband's side. For some reason, he doesn't like my lens in front of his face

Thanks, John. That view is now growing on me, too!

I'm glad you like it, Izzie. Now you can smile when someone calls you "a silly coot" And, I do believe he is smiling!

    Good captures Donna.

I have not managed anything smaller than a heron in flight yet and I think it will be a while before I do

I had a chuckle reading the wings up or down comments, they are almost as alien to me as the 'focus on the eye' ones I read as I'm still trying to master the 'get the bird in the frame' 1st stage with a bit of confidence

    Hi Grahame,

You will find that trying to get good shots of all kinds of birds is rather addictive. The smaller ones are a little harder, and just as much of a challenge to get sharp. I always put my prime focus on the eye, but you will learn all of that as you progress. What you will find is that your new lens will achieve focus a lot quicker. Sitting and just watching the bird action is a great way to start which you already found out. Put your D300 through the paces after you "get them in the frame" I loved that comment. Have a great time!!!!

Don't know how I missed these. Nice shots Donna. I particularly like the determined look on the Gull's face.

Thanks, John. There are so many wonderful shots and photographers on this forum that it is easy to miss something. Yes, the gull was on a mission!
