Nice shot Pat. I wonder if you should zoom in on the main subject more ( by cropping). The fairly large expanse of wall doesn't add a lot to the shot IMHO.

Many thanks for your comments, my initial thought was an image that portrayed them together in the wide expanse of life, hence the empty space of the wall, perhaps it just doe's not work.

nice effort, I feel a bit more separation from the wall would help. The cast shadow on hte arm helps, but the rear leg sort of blends in with the pup. The slant of the wall-ground does help somewhat in terms of tone. Also, my eyes are drawn away from the pair of buddies to that wall cavity above left.

Nice capture, but I feel a bit like John, that a bit more separation from the wall would be a bit better, as I had to look several times to find the man head, as this blended to much into the brick wall.....

The framing looks ok to me in Lytebox size, but the subject blends into the background too much. Perhaps you could change the colour of the man's clothing before converting to B&W so that he stood out from the wall more.

Yes it could do with a little more contrast on the main subjects and I prefer a crop that removes the little hole in the wall but what a wonderful moment in life you've captured. I think it's a great shot.

This is a wonderful image showing the love two-way love between a man and his dog. I melt when a dog looks at me like this. My terrier, Shasha, has expressive eyes like this dog.

I do prefer the more closely cropped version! IMO, selective brightening of the man's face would also add to the image...
