    botanical gardens

    On Monday I took my visiting Mum and brother to the Harold Porter botanical gardens as it was there first visit to SA, not the ideal time of year for many blooms but I am attaching a few images that caught my attention.

    These are all beautiful shots...I like #1 -- the foreground looks like a well spread fan.

    All of these shots are beautiful. I really like the third one of the closed protea flower. Excellent details on this one!

    Hello Neil
    Good pictures. If I could, I would "combine" the more opened flower with the background of the more closed, because the fog/mist? to the left is distracting my eye.
    And indeed a very inspiring composition of the landscape (honni soit qui mal y pense).

    Not sure what is what, but the yellow among all the greenery works for this capture.

    They all work well. Good camera angles, plenty of focus depth and some potential over exposure areas have been nicely constrained.

    To me the picture as picture does not work; it is too twitchy;
    The plant, I think it is some kind of a creeper (? I am not sure in English?) which are very interesting and fascinating to watch, because they grow very, very fast, are clinging to everything in their reach to spiral up to the sun.

    I think the 'creeper' in the fifth one is probably a parasitic plant, something like the Dodder we get in the UK. It latches onto its host, stealing its sap.

    I agree with Edwin that it is twitchy, but I think that is what I like about it! I also particularly like the Proteas.
