Daffodils

Our front garden currently has a great show of daffodils. They were planted by me forty years ago, assisted by my daughter, then aged two. Trying to take a good photo of them was problematic. The afternoon sun was in the wrong direction, there was distracting background and most of the plants were in each other's way. So I tried photographing blind, holding my camera close to the ground, aiming at some flowers and hoping for the best. This is the best of the bunch. In the camera screen, it looked fine. However, when I opened it on my PC, I noticed that behind the main flowers were telephone wires radiating out in all directions. This took some post processing to get rid of them!

It is so difficult to get a perfect camera angle of scenes like this, to say nothing about correct exposure as well.

Works OK but ideally I would have preferred it without that part bloom in the bottom right corner.

Thanks to all of you for your appreciative comments. I took the picture with my Canon SX260HS camera. exposure details were f/5.6, 1/1250 and ISO 400. This has a screen at the back that I could not see when taking the photos! The viewpoint was carefully composed, but the image I got was pot luck! I add here a shot of my front garden showing the daffodil patch. As you can see, there is little scope for getting down amongst the flowers. I was crouching on the pavement (sidewalk) to take the bunch of flowers near the centre-back.

Great to see the overview of where you took your daffodils and the work you put yourself into just to get your shot. I am surprised you did not lie down on the pavement at all considering how short the daffodils are...

Thanks Izzie. I have two replacement knees, which means that kneeling down and getting up from the ground can be difficult, otherwise I probably would have done! In some similar circumstances, I take photos of ground-level subjects by standing facing away from it, then I bend down and take the picture from between my legs. Unfortunately there was nowhere for me to stand and do this trick.

In some similar circumstances, I take photos of ground-level subjects by standing facing away from it, then I bend down and take the picture from between my legs. Unfortunately there was nowhere for me to stand and do this trick.

There is a solution to that kind of shooting that I heard of but haven't implemented and yet I find interesting -- get an app for your iphone or android so you can connect your camera to it and all you have to do is control your shooting from there...Unfortunately, I do not have an iphone sort of cell phone because I find is too distracting and noisy. (My eldest son calls my cell a "museum piece". ) It is a simple phone to make and receive phone calls and that is how far I would go. But when researching yesterday for a monitor for my camera, I am tempted to change my phone to an android one because that eldest sarcastic son of mine make apps for androids, amongst other things he does...I will send you some links if you want...I am in my desktop at the moment and my links are downstairs in my laptop...but you can google it if you are in a hurry to look into it. $2.29 or lesser is not too much as an add-on to your phone compared to $44 or more for a DSLR monitor.

Interesting, that idea. I did a Google search and the apps available do seem to assume you are using a Canon or Nikon DSLR. I have a Sony DSLR. However it does have a LCD screen that folds down, so that I can position the camera facing up and look at the screen from above. I have used this for photographing fungi. I used my Canon Powershot to take the daffodils because I had it on me when I arrived home the other day and spotted the daffodils not being blown about in the wind.
