    Tuggie Turns Two

My great little Border Collie, Tuggie, just turned two. We've totally enjoyed the snow and fun shots.

Your thoughts are much appreciated about this photo - what works and why, what you like and what could be changed/improved. I learn so much with each posting and your generous comments. thanks!

Nicely done, that one would sell with a bit more sharpening of the eyes.

Hi Diane, the image works for me . Such a nice dog There are some shadowy areas in the image but they have a kind of vignette effect and your dog stands out more this way. Only the tree above Tuggie's left ear seems a bit too dark and distracting but it can be fixed easily.

Diane, that a very nice capture. I particularly like the light on the face. My only thought though is that you don't need all of the LHS because it adds nothing. My instinct would be to crop it to just past the dark area of snow and make it a squarer comp. Lovely dog BTW. Looks like fun.

Again me Diane. Although I like your original, I also agree with the square crop comment. That would be another nice image

I personally really like your original. The left side adds context IMO. Beautiful dog, and beautifully captured!

John took the words about cropping right out of my mouth...

Wow - you guys are wonderful. Thank you all so very much for your comments and suggestions. I, myself, was wondering about a tighter crop on this, though I do like the context the original adds, as Kristy mentioned.

Thanks for your appreciation of Tuggie - she is truly a gem!

I tried two crops of the original post. How do either of these work?

Thanks, Dave. I do like this photo, too. It really captures Tuggie. I like the way the light plays off her. Glad you like it.

    Re: Tuggie Turns Two

A final question, CIC friends. Did I do ok removing the 'snowball' in front of Tuggie in the second crop? Any suggestions for improvement there? I'm working on learning about those techniques.
    Thanks, Diane

    Re: Tuggie Turns Two

I love this shot Dianne for its crispness, light and especially the subject. I like the original and the crops but I would personally leave the snowball in the shot. It makes it look like she's been given an ice cream cake for her birthday.
