Now....that sparkles!

in a perfect world or even in the Star Trek world everything would be free. No ideas of your finances but how about one of those circular fit over the camera lens light/flash units?
From what I have been reading two or three small lights just might get you the hardness needed for a sharper shot?
I like this one better now...it will be a nice wear to plain white dress as you almost illustrated here...
If the camera is shielding the subject then that calls for a longer lens and some way of enabling it to focus closer than it is possibly designed to work such as extension tube[s] or a CU lens and you use the narrower angle of view to achieve tight framing rather than going in that close that the light is blocked. Even if you only have a magnifying glass it would be worth playing with that at the glass's focal length or a little closer allowing for the camera lens's own focusing ability. ie with a 20 inch glass you might have a working range of between 20 and 13 inches as I have and the tight framing comes from the <430mm or 280mm lens with respective cameras. Bridge and MFT. Whatever focal length you use there is little difference in depth of field for a given image size.

Hi Brian,
I think you are referring to a ring flash and it is a consideration, but so far I've found that flash is a bit too intense with the many angles. I've tried reducing the intensity of the flash, bounced the flash off a diffuser, and tried flash from two different angles.
One more I'd suggest you do now...turn the image clockwise about 45° so the hole is at the top and actually how it should be worn. I think that will be more pleasing to look at normally hanging from a chain than a photographically correct position to catch the light. Just a thought...
Hi Izzie,
I have a few shots with the correct orientation, however I actually shot this particular image as you see it because I was concerned with losing some of the subject if I needed to crop. The only reason I didn't rotate this one is the pendant looked off center (the left side showed more of the depth) and a bit odd.
She Whom Must Be Obeyed (AKA Myra) say 'I wouldn't want to wear that... looks like flowers pushed together... looks like pots of jello.'
She is my most severe critic!
But to my old man eyes it does seem a tad bright. If you intentionally worked to get the focus as it is, Well Done.
There is a lot of beauty in the locket but finding it is proving difficult?
Brian, tell She Who Must be Obeyed that I appreciate her critique. This particular pendant was given to my Auntie about thirty years ago and I don't believe she ever wore it either.
I think and hope the focus miss was just a matter of placement of the pendant, I had it adhered to the back wall of my light tent and the light was coming from the left. After I uploaded this series my memory died (or at least I received a "damaged card" message) so I had to close up shop for the day.
Have you finished with this piece John or are you planning some more takes?
