    Hokey dokey John!

I was just curious! I had been planning a couple of jewelry shoots myself and when you posted this I took to wondering how I might approach the shot if I were in your shoes.

    Thanks.

I don't have a chain attached but I've seen some good examples where pendant were placed on jewelry stands. The position of the pendant would be at an angle, so the camera would have to be positioned straight on or tilted downward. I've also seen some good results where the jewelry was placed on black acrylic.

To be honest, I typically spend very little time behind the camera in the studio and way more time in front of it. I set the composition and focus and that’s about it. Shoot tethered so I don’t have to view the LCD screen on-camera, and fire the camera with a wireless remote. Far and away more time is spent with the lights and making messes than with the camera!

The less time I spend close to the camera, the less chance I’m going to trip over the stinking tripod!

Well Izzie, since you asked if it’s cool with John I’ll be happy to share my thoughts on the matter.

Latest result, went back to the light tent. F/8, ISO 100, 1/4sec.

John do you think you might be picking up a color cast on these last two?

    Terry,

It's possible, these were shot during evening hours (around 6PM) using light filtered through both curtain blinds and the white light tent. I used Daylight WB when converting.
