Thanks John, Barbara and Izzie. At some point I want to go on an old bridge binge. I think this one would be a bender though.

Mark - I like your first image, but the second one, not as much. I find that the bridge fades right into the background of the trees.

This is pre coffee but shot number 2 doesn't seem to need the bridge. It is a great shot of the gorge.

    Thanks Brian,
There are many places here like that most without bridges. This particular road dates back to the 1850s gold rush days.
We live in the Sierra Nevada foot hills About 120 miles east of San Fransisco.

The composition in the first one is pleasing. However, what's causing the uneven toning in it (certain areas with a comparatively intense red tone not present in the rest of the image)?

The first is compositionally wrong to me with the road taking us out of the picture right ... flipping horizontally it looked better but too much foliage so first a crop and then a re-size 100% Horizontally and 150% Vertically gives me something I rather like
Not reality but do we have to follow reality with what we do? I say we do not. Every time we press the trigger we tell a small or big lie ... it is the nature of photography
    Horseshoe bridge
and that patch of red ... I suspect flare of some sort .. did a loose selection around it with generous feather and with Adjust/color/red-blue-green tool reduced the redness somewhat
