    Blue Banded B

Another wet day today and it seems to have stopped these blue banded bees from flying. Usually they settle on some twigs in my garden at sunset and are up and gone at dawn but today they're just hangin' around.
These are males which have 5 blue bands. The females which have 4 bands actually live in holes in the ground. They're solitary bees and don't have hives.

Nice one Graham. I love the color of his eye and is that little red thing his tongue?

Love your wet project, Graham...#1 is very good, but I love the pose of #2 a lot better and the composition of #1 is excellent. Good job.

Good series Graham. I particularly like the second one. It's an attractive looking insect. I don't think we have anything like it over here. Geoff??

Thanks all and yes Izzie, a good wet weather project although very little light even at f2.8 to get a decent shutter speed and forget about it at f6.3 and above so very reduced depth of field.

No not its tongue Barbara, it's something on the twig.

These bees are native to an area stretching from India through Malasia, Indonesia and New Guinea and down to Australia so no, you won't have them in the UK or Europe.
