Dave, I had a look at where the focus point was shown in ViewNX for that image and it shows the central one on the feathers. I then noted that many of the other images shot at the same time had the focus point box showing as being off centre, typically a twig near the bird. I had been shooting in AF Dynamic Area Mode, 9 point, woops.

I'm loving it The only problem I have had is one of logistics.

I was able to carry all my gear for outdoor shooting around in one bag, camera with one lens fitted, either the 28-75 or 70-300, space for the one not in use and space for such things as battery, cards, filters, brush etc. I have now had to buy an identical bag just so that I can keep the 80-400 mounted on the camera in it on its own rather than keep dis-mounting and re-mounting the lens.
