    2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 14 - I should have kept quiet

Wow - where has the first quarter gone ??

This week, apart from the final day from Calais to home, we have been confined to base. It's been a very dull week weather wise, so I mentioned to my husband I was needing inspiration for my photo project this week.......

Well I won't do that again ! As well as photography, he is a model train enthusiast and spends many happy hours in our garage with his trains. Two years ago he dismantled his layout, a sample of which is here - a photo I found unprocessed

So yesterday, he delved into his collection and gave me one Loco and a piece of track and set me the task of photographing it.... So in a complete departure from the travel photography, here are this week's selection

1 - the reflection caught my eye

2 - as ever, I preferred the little details

3 - A study of the pantograph - this is three photos with different focal points merged

    As ever, C&C welcome

The light in the building window of #1 is a little bit distractingly bright; but everything else is excellent.

Kaye, I like the sequence and #1 would normally be a favourite since I have a thing about symmetry.... so, is there a reason why the carriage has hit the buffer to the right?

Thanks all, hubby will be pleased you like his trains - he too liked the photos so that was a minor success. Geoff I will reprocess to tone down that light - you're right, it's distracting. James I think this may be the perspective as I don't think the train is on the buffers, but I can't check as it's no longer in situ ! Thanks again for looking

    Re: 2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 15 - a new toy

This week we managed a few days out, one of which resulted in me blowing some savings and updating my camera to the new Sony A77ii - it was the 79 AF points that sold it to me. I have tried it out on the daffodils posted elsewhere, here were the very first shots taken on the way home via Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley.

This is a very spiritual place and I found it quite overwhelming in scale....added to that a new camera I was unfamiliar with and most of the images have hit the recycle bin. Here are a couple I was fairly pleased with but it will be take another visit or two to do any real justice

The sphere is a very recently installed art installation - if you zoom in you see it it the same image as rest and it is like this all the way around - very clever. There is also a camera halfway up the end wall - it was taking time lapse photos every second - we never got to ask what the full project was - another reason to go back

And then on the way home, as the sun was setting we came across this

    2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 14 - I should have kept quiet

We stopped and it flew right over us

    2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 14 - I should have kept quiet

Needlessto say I completely forgot shutter priority may have been a better option...... but it was a good end to what had been a great day

You are really going places this year, eh? All good shots although I like the one with sphere because it is different.

Good images from the past two postings. The monochromes have worked really well.

Nice series, the structures don't look old at all.

    Is this better ?

    2015 Project 52 - 2nd Quarter - Kaye Leggett - week 14 - I should have kept quiet

Any tips on how to spot when a picture is not straight helpful too - my problem with this image was which vertical to make straight. On this image I have used the back of the signal box, rather than the front, and also the detail on the roof. Are there any 'rules' on how to determine the best choice ?

Errr...not quite...it is still leaning towards the left...in response to your which vertical to make it straight question, if this is mine, I will either measure from the farthest side of the building or from the brick side down to the ground...anywhere you can see a straight line going down.
