    Ocean Classic

This is the yacht "Black Jack" at the start of the annual Brisbane to Gladstone ocean yacht race. Just 3 minutes into the race (which it won) it was well out in front of the pack with just a couple of spectator boats in frame with it.

This is at 600mm, f9, 1/1250, ISO 200 and a monopod for support.
The yacht is about 5.7 km (3.5 miles) away and the port in the background is nearly 14km (8.7 miles) away.
For those who are interested you can go to Google Earth and find the co-ordinates S27 15' 14.3 E153 6' 27.08 It was taken from there looking SSE towards roughly the centre of the Port of Brisbane.

I really like how this shot has the boat centered between the shipyard cranes and how the haze obscuring the cranes gives the image a sense of depth...

Ditto to Richard's comment...it is really very hard to capture these races. I once did and I had no keepers at all because of the distance. I was green at the time. (I am still green, so what am I talking about?!)
