Experimental painted effect...

After seeing another poster put up their images of a painted effect I thought I'd do the same.

I've been working on perfecting this effect for a while and I think I've finally found a look I'm happy with. I have posted a few of my images I've used it on just to get eveyones thoughts.

Obviously I'm aware this won't be everyones thing but lets see how we go

I like #1, 4 and 5...although I do not like the guy in #1 is a little bit off...Off with his head! said the Queen. It sort of got lost in all the effects...

I like these, especially #1, #3 and #5. I find that the effect on the standing water in #2 looks rather odd. This could presumably be faded back to the original. In #4, the hilltop at the right seems to have acquired a rather artificial-looking cap. This, for me, spoils an otherwise excellent result.

#4. I have done a few and have found that giving the sky a finer treatment (or none) can work well. You certainly had some nice landscapes to work with.

I think these all work well to varying degrees. I could certainly live with one or two of them on the wall printed on fine art paper. What are you using Matt?

You're venturing into an area that I haven't tried but, I'm a fan of Thomas Kinkade.
As has been said, you may want to smooth your brush strokes, especially in the sky and the water.

It took awhile to see what "painterly effect" you were referring to, it's barely visible in the first image and more pronounced in the remainder. I like the textured look to the series, keep in mind that when oil painters use this style they do so to create the effects that are already visible in your images. Having those textures in a what should probably be a smooth scene could be a bit distracting, perhaps some of these textures would work if you wanted to imply a stormy sky. Nice efforts.

Not really but if you start a thread in post processing part of CinC , other members might know. BTW have you ever tried orton effect in PS. It gives a velvet-like look to grass and foliage. Please see my old thread The park... . You can also google orton effect. There are a lot of videos about it on youtube

I love them all as photos. I've just never been a fan of photoshop's or any other plug-in's ability of creating brush strokes or underlay textures as of to create a "fine art" look. (Having said this, I do add textures and overlays to images on a daily basis, but it's a different playing field in the advertising business).
