    Wedding on the Beach

I have not previously paid much attention to the People & Pets section of CinC, so this is my first post.

Recently the Isles of Scilly Council has established a registry office in its new buildings at Porthcressa Beach on the main island. Understandably, given the setting, this is a popular venue for weddings. We were walking up the hill at the end of the beach when we spotted this wedding party having their photos taken:
    Wedding on the Beach

It struck me as being rather different to the usual photo opportunities at weddings. I like the contrast between the women in bare feet and the men in black shoes! The man in the white shirt is, I presume, the photographer telling the couple and guests what to do and, as usual, they are doing just what they want.

This picture was snatched with my Canon PowerShot SX260 HS at 1/1250, f/6.8, ISO 200 hand-held at its highest zoom setting. The only post-processing was some cropping and sharpening.

    C&C welcome.

Nice effort, the woman in the patterned dress looks elongated and this is perhaps caused by a combination of lens defect and your angle of capture. At first I thought it might be how CiC displays images but even when viewed with Lightbox the elongation is still evident.

I cannot see this elongation mlyself. I just looked at the map, and the horizontal distance is around 60 metres, with the vertical distance 15 metres. That,if anything, should give some shortening rather than elongation. I do not see any elongation in the other figures. I have taken hundreds of pictures with this camera, and never noticed any such effect. It could be a consequence of barrel distortion when using it at maximum zoom. I will look further into this.

John and John...sometimes CiC do not display our image properly. I know this for a fact because sometimes I will review some postings and they are elongated by a lot more measure than called for. In my viewing here, it seems normal looking to me at my uncalibrated laptop...

Nice catch, John...I like the composition here...although if I am the photographer I will not advice anyone walking down the sands without sandals or shoes on...it is a recipe for disaster because of accidental encounters of needles used by druggies during the dark part of the night. When living in Oz, we have all been warned about not having any footwear or sandals when on the beach...even if they cleaned the sand at least 3 or 4 times a day in Melbourne.

Thanks for your comments Izzie. I can quite believe what you advise for many parts of the UK, but the Isles of Scilly are remarkably free of such crime. They are currently advertising for a new Police Constable for the islands. The guardian newspaper (in the link article) says: "any potential candidate would need to know how to handle a stray seal in the high street or be able to pacify drunken chefs in a row over salt."

Having said that, there is always the possibility of a Lesser Weever fish which is sometimes found buried just below the surface at low tide level. This has poisonous spines that do cause a painful sting to a small number of paddlers each year in the UK. This wedding party is well above that level.

Oh John...I also read your link (thanks!) and I was laughing my head off about that abandoned fish...for 2,000 people...that crime rate is very high indeed.

I was married on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean! Seacoasts are great as wedding locations!
