Final day of the Cricket Championship

Today was the final day of the 4 day cricket tournament here and my last chance for now to get 'that' capture. Yesterday just about every shot was at ISO1600 due to really overcast weather but unfortunately no decent action captured but today the sun was too bright with the occasional shower, but some action.

So from today, the pick of the bunch.

    No 1 - 1/1000, f/5.6, 320mm, ISO320
Final day of the Cricket Championship

    No 2 - 1/1250, f/5.6, 290mm, ISO400
Final day of the Cricket Championship

    No 3 - 1/1250, f/5.6, 400mm, ISO360
Final day of the Cricket Championship

    No 4 - 1/1250, f/5.6, 380mm, ISO200
Final day of the Cricket Championship

    No 5 - 1/1250, f/6.3, 320mm, ISO500
Final day of the Cricket Championship

    No 6 - 1/1250, f/5.6, 390mm, ISO1000
Final day of the Cricket Championship

All these have been PPd from the JPEG, minor shadow and highlight work, a linear contrast added, basic sharpening and no notice taken of the histogram I wanted to see how easy it's going to be to set up a batch process for them.

These are the best so far Grahame, well done, plenty of action, very hard to pick a favorite but if pushed, probably #1 for me mate

    Cheers David

Nice series, for a bit of variety I try to add a few blur shots.

Thanks David, yes I was lucky with the action perhaps because it was the final so lots of effort by the players.

No 1 was my dream capture, ball in contact with the stumps but having got it not my favourite image

    Cheers, Grahame

Thanks John. I had intended to try and get some blur shots of a bowler but first wanted to experiment with capturing as the ball left his hand. That was a miserable failure as it seems harder to time for that than bails flying

Do you have a 'blur' shot you can show as an example as something I can aim for?

    Hi Grahame,

What's happening in #2? (I'm seeing lots of dots)
Was there a sudden rain shower?
Or did the sprinkler get switched on momentarily?

You seem to be doing all right with these - apart from the usual random (and unavoidable) team sports variables that detract from some captures; players blocking the view, hidden ball, etc. All you can do is keep shooting.

I don't think the hi-vis orange glove at extreme left of shot in #5 contributes in any way, so I'd clone that out - but I don't follow, far less understand, cricket, so what do I know

    Hope that's helpful, Dave

Grahame...I like #4 -- You got the ball and the position of the bail is really funny...

Graham you've captured some great moments there. I love to see the stumps re-arranged and the bails flying in the air !

That's the rain Dave I managed to grab that shot just before it reached me and placed my large plastic shopping bag over the camera to the amusement of those around

People getting in the way is something you simply have to contend with.

Yes that glove needs removing, easily done.

Dave, I wonder if the batsmen view the ones of stumps being re-arranged as their preferred images

No Graham but as an under-achieving ex bowler I do.

Very impressive to capture the ball impacting the stumps!

I like #3 the best. However, I wonder what the white noise on image #2 might be. Was it rain? It looks like snow but, I am certain that it was not snowing in Fiji

No 3 is also my favourite of this set Richard. It has the critical component, the face with its expression so clear and the added bonus of ball in action. Separation from the background is good apart from that rubbish bin and rugby posts.

In No 2 that is shower that I grabbed just before it reached me and 'rain stopped shooting' for ten minutes
