The issue is not film vs. digital; it is manual vs. autofocus. My understanding is that linear polarizers interfere with AF. Therefore virtually everyone now uses circular polarizers

Linear polarizers can also interfere with exposure readings on some manual focus cameras. I had exposure problems with a Pentax ME film camera when using a linear polarizer and a Tiffen representative gave me a circular polarizer which solved the exposure problems.

Of course, Dan is correct, most (if not all) autofocus systems require circular polarizers...

    Hi Josan,

Tae answer the question...no. Ye can use the same circular polarizer on film and digital cameras and they will perform exactly the same way .

Hi, Would add to this answer, You get what you pay for as in anything, buy a cheap Pol filter and put it on the front of your expensive lens or buy a quality and be happy with the results!!!

Only with phase detection AF that uses a semi-transparent mirror, i.e. most DSLRs. Contrast detection AF and most mirrorless cameras with PDAF pixels on their sensors are not affected AFAIK.

Circular polarizer as in OP should produce the same result film or digital. Unlike linear though, CPL stops working if you put it back to front. Again either film or digital.
