Great captures Wayne, the lightening is impressive enough but those skies are brilliant. What surprises me is that for a 15 second exposure the water does not appear very 'smoothed'?

Thanks Grahame, the water is in the dark for the most part except during the strike which acts as a flash, at about one million volts it lights up everything for the split second including the clouds which are actually moving and would otherwise be a little blurred.

Thanks for that Wayne, sometimes my brain simply does not function

Your welcome Grahame, its not something we think of generally. Its a force of nature :-)

That's a great capture Wayne and I love the description - Leg out of bed - strike. So apt.

I did some research for a workshop recently on lightning photography and 1000 people per year die from strikes, each strike is about one million volts and half of the victims are standing under trees. A few interesting stats. I have had them land 100 metres from me so its a good idea to stay under a rood where possible.

These images have been in the back of my mind for the last couple of days.

As silly as this may sound, I've often wondered how lucky it must be to get a photo of a lighting strike. ...from the stand point of being able to snap the shutter as fast as...lighting. lol.

You've opened my eyes and solved a life long mystery to me. Now where's my remote shutter release. Thank YOU!

No worries Dave, glad I could help. Once you get the hang of it, it's an easy process. During the daytime but you will need a lighting sensor which will get the shot for you. One more point to remember is to focus on infinity. You don't know where the strike will be so that takes care of it.

    Really nice, Wayne.

Lightning is my all time favorite subject. We had some big lightning the other night and I was wishing I had a lens under 24mm. I could not get all of it in.

I usually use the 20mm but this was with the 50mm. Many chasers use the 14mm because its hard to know where they will fall. Good luck with the next storm that comes through.

    Thank you, Wayne.

You have such lovely, clear expanses to work with! I am envious!
