Cheers Richard, they were all shot with just the 100mm at 1-1 then I think 1 and 3 have a slight crop, no.2 is cropped a bit more;)

All superb macro shots David, I'll be looking for some tips when I give it a go in the next few weeks :)
Cheers Toby, thank you for commenting bud!:)
Thanks Matt, no probs mate just give me a shout, and if I can help I will, looking forward to seeing your shots:)
I note that EXIF says you used your flash [#2] and I wonder if it scared the fly off after the shot? :)
More detail than I ever hoped to note about flies :) Nicely captured. The differences in the feet are interesting.
Awesome shots! I never thought I would look forward to seeing flies but you have changed the way I see them. Today there was a wasp on my patio, normally I would have run but I found myself looking to see if I could figure a good angle for a Macro shot
Having lost my extension tubes (replacement coming soon...) the only fly I will shoot is when I hit it with the swatter...:p In the meantime, I will just drool over the macros of David...:D No flies yet this way, too windy for the flies to come out of hiding...
Hi John, nearly all my images are shot with flash, including 1 and 3, Flys are normally ok with flash but Jumping Spiders can be a bit more skittish
Cheers Dan, their feet are like little sucksion pads, it amazes me what you can see when you get close enough to these little guys:)
Thank you Barbara, they do not look as bad up close;) Be careful with wasps though:eek: they are usually fine unless you accidentally threaten them, then it can hurt:D
Cheers Izzie, you don't really need tubes, these were shot without them, diffused flash is a great help with Macro;) Stop murdering my insects:p:D
good series David.... #2 is awesome with his skating shoes on!
lol, cheers Dedro, thanks for commenting mate:D
Hi Barbara, no problem, there have been a few threads on here where where members have posted pictures of their flash setup, my home is upside down at the moment as we have decorators in:rolleyes: but when I get a chance I will take a pic of mine.
You actually have a better camera;) my one is the first version :p
My diffuser is an old Macdonalds drinks carton, take out the bottom and chuck the lid and on the front I have two sheets of kitchen roll stuck down with tape, very high tech, I then slipped this over my 580 flash which is on the side of my camera via an old flash bracket!
The settings I use are nearly always Manual, F11-16, ISO 200 and SS 200.
Hope this helps:)
Wow, making art out of flies Good Job!:)
Cheers Sherwood, much appreciated :)
OK David...got my tubes this morning...while the flies are not around yet, I saw a wasp (yes, singular!!) a while ago that I want to do macro on, but it is outside. Do I catch it and bring it inside, put some museum wax and lay it down there or pour some honey to where I wanted to shoot (photograph, not gun...) it? How do you get it to keep still? Do I put it in my fridge first for a few days? Pray, do impart some knowledge this way....I am serious!!! See! no smilies in this message...
Hi Izzie, what lens are you going to be using? I do not use tubes, just a Macro lens, when you put tubes on it exaggerates camera shake and makes it even harder to hold the camera steady!
if I were you I would practice on flower heads or coins or similar, as for bugs I don't use any of the methods you mentioned, I just go out and hopefully find them, try and sneak up on them and hope they do not move or fly away:o it can be very frustrating but also very rewarding when you get a half decent image, be prepared for a lot more in the trash bin to start with :D and keep away from wasps until you get the hang off things:eek: looking forward to seeing your images;)
