    Vatican Arches: C&C Welcome

    All,

Just going through my photos from my trip to Rome. (More to Follow) This is one of my favorites, I find it very intriguing the granite, curved lines and straight lines.

Some minor PP done in terms of sharpening and NR.

I welcome any comments on the composition, technics or PP. Thanks

Good detail n the shadows, could use a bit of contrast in the highlighted area. Nice composition.

Agreeing. Love the curves and the patterning in the marble. The arch and bit you can see of the cupola also make an intriguing set of shapes in themselves. It is a pleasing abstract design.

In terms of crit, I would perhaps have looked to simplify the number of elements you have there, by lowering the frame to crop out that top lintel. It might also have benefited from cropping off the right hand column.

You have a strong range of tones and shapes there. I would like to see this one as a B&W conversion.

Looking forward to seeing your other Rome shots.

Nice shot, as Max said I would lower the frame just a tiny bit.

I think it would convert nicely to a black and white but at the same time, it has just enough warmth that I like it as it is. I think you did a nice job of exposing and focusing. It appears to me as one of those "mind bender" sort of images that keep the viewer guessing at the true architectural layering of the structure. Interesting indeed and nicely done.

Thanks John, already made some adjustment with LR on this highlighted area, added a touch more contrast.

Max - Thanks for looking and the feedback. I added a touch of crop already to the original image. I agree the right hand column is not needed. I lowered the crop in the new photo, not sure how i feel yet. I am thinking that maybe original photo with some photo shop work to remove the lintel. BW conversion also done.

I think the abstract nature of it is what also keeps me intrigued. Thanks for the compliment

I prefer the original colour, to the B&W conversion. The original image is already limited in tone depth, so I'm not sure that the conversion gains you anything, but rather loses some of the warmth of the materials.

What I would probably do with this image is spend some time in post doing a light dodge on the brighter parts of the shot to enhance the detail in the stonework.
