    Waiting in Airport: C&C welcome

    All,

Waiting in the airport for flight. I am particularly pleased with my PP on this photo and have included both for C&C. i

The photo alone may not be the best, but when I combine it into a photo book with someother photos of the airport I think it will be very good.

I appreciate comments on PP and Composition.

I question my location from the side, but I think it also captures other people and gives the feeling of being in an airport. I tried a tighter crop but it lost its feeling to me.

The exposure is better on the second one but a part from the main 2 subjects everyone one has a halo/glow around them?

+1 to Matt's comments, a very difficult shooting environment. Nice recovery on the background subjects, a bit high key on the foreground subjects.

Nice picture of the most boring situation of modern life; waiting for the call to the gate (and then there is the second most boring moment/hours in life: waiting in the plane until you step out).
To the picture: something in between 1 and 2 regarding brightness would work for me, as would work a tighter crop somehow along the lines I propose here (if you disapprove of my edit, tell me, I will delete it).
I think, how different people act on waiting does not need the leg-boots to the right. From the girl, to the very bored boy, to the napping ?, to the interested man in a red jacket there is a story told, most of us have lived through.

I suspect that what you are referring to is the way the light wraps around the people, especially noticeable on the hair, parts of the skin and their clothing. This is quite normal for a strongly back-lit scene.

You see the same kind of effect when shooting is a studio as well when a "kicker" or "rim" light is introduced from behind to separate the subject from the background

Manfred, there is not just the rim light effect, but something else going on, which must be due to whatever PP was used. Look at the shoe sticking out near the boy's nose. It has a grey halo around it. Similarly, the top of the head of the person sleeping. It is not too noticeable and I do generally think that was an effective recovery. However, I wonder if it might have required less fiddling in PP, Erik, if you had used fill flash. It would also have done more of what you needed, so light and bring out the kids in the front, fading off as it hits those furthest from the lens.

Erwin, agreeing with you on the crop. That tightens it up and removes some of the extraneous stuff.

Overall, nice picture that tells a story that we can all relate to.

You must have better eyes than I do (which is probably the case), but with the compressed, small image displayed I cannot tell what the artifacts are caused by. The most noticeable effects (at least to my old eyes) are caused by the back lighting, which does introduce a bit of a halo. I suspect that the PP process (and possibly the compression process) might have caused the halos to be enhanced.

What better way to spend your time waiting for your flight than taking images? Good idea...
